Dear Chairman Admiral Richard Macke (Ret) and President Joy Hess,

Thank you so much for awarding me the MG Eugene Renzi, USA (Ret) Scholarship in Recognition of Professional Excellence. I am so grateful and honored to receive this scholarship and excited about the ways it will help me achieve my goals and open up new opportunities for me in college.

I’m currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. I am studying electrical engineering as my major in college because I love problem solving and innovative technology that enriches people’s lives. I hope to get involved in engineering clubs and participate in internships during my time in college at Cal Poly. After attending college, I hope to work on computer hardware and software projects at a leading technology company in Silicon Valley in order to gain experience at developing new electronics and working on project teams. My most significant career goal is to found a company based on social justice that uses engineering to help the community. I believe that a career in engineering will help me improve society and eliminate injustice while working with engineers across disciplines. I may eventually go to graduate school, to pursue a master’s degree in either engineering or business.

The money I receive from this scholarship will help me pay for tuition at Cal Poly and take part in many of the clubs and extracurricular activities that are offered. I will be able to take many engineering elective courses in today’s important fields of technology, such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity. The funds will also help me pursue my goals within the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and the Electric Vehicle Engineering Club.

Once again, thank you so much for selecting me as a recipient of this scholarship.

Sincerely,

Bjorn Nelson
